He is a hero of mine and I am blessed to call him friend. He. like so many of our missionary speakers, hold no punches. Here is one of Matt’s status updates from earlier today “Pastor, Are you serious about missions? I mean, we call our churches “Missions-Hearted Churches.” But are they really? Just because you had a missionary come to your church…and took him to McDonalds? Ok, lets be serious about missions. Take your youth group to OGSummit.” If you are repelled by his statement you would hate our Summit. If you are challenged I hope to see you there. Below is an article written by Bro. John Allen. He is Matt’s father and also a missionary in PNG. I hope to share the story of more people who make the Summit wonderful over the weeks to come.

Don’t Forget My People

By John Allen

Published Aug 26, 2011

On the west side of our Kamea people lives another people known as the Tewata or Tainae. Their numbers are much smaller than the Kamea, perhaps numbering only around 1,000. They live in a few villages in a very isolated area, without an airstrip, an aid post, or any development. We know them because they hike a full hard day to come to us for health care.

My wife has ministered to many Tewata peoples’ health needs. Most that we meet come from a village called Pangoni (Pan-go-nee).

Andrew is their spokesman and representative. He speaks some English and can write in Pidgin. Somewhere along the way he heard the Gospel and trusted Christ as his Savior, and has a good testimony of it. He never asks for anything; well, nothing, except for a missionary. He knew a missionary would bring some medical help to his people; but more than that, he wanted us to plant a church there so that the Gospel could be preached to his people and they could learn for themselves what God said in His Word. Andrew was responsible for some of his own people coming to Christ, but he wanted help.

On every visit to us, Andrew always had a warm handshake and time for a story. I enjoyed seeing him come. And our parting always ended like the same. “Brother John,” Andrew would say, holding my hand and looking into my eyes, “Don’t forget my people.” [read entire article]

I am overwhelmed by the fact that God allows me to serve with some of the most wonderful people in the world. For the last 7 years we have had the opportunity to create a one week environment where college students desirous to serve in foreign missions could come and learn. It is not only amazing that God allows our team to have a camp like this but that this camp has built our team. This is seen over and over again. The students we have helped are serving all around America and the world today. Here is one such example.

It’s hard to believe it has been seven years since the first camp. I can still remember parts of it like it was yesterday. I remember bowing after the first night, crying uncontrollable on the alter, and begging God to give me another chance, begging him to use my life. And only four months earlier, I probably would have been leaving the bar at that time. Now, I’m sitting here in Peru, trying to put the final touches on Sunday morning’s message that I will be preaching in Spanish, Lord willing to 100+ people. That’s just ridiculous! Our God is good!
If I’ve learned anything in the past seven years it’s that God wants them saved more than you and I can even imagine, and he will use anyone to accomplish his will.

I know God is going to use this year’s camp in incredible ways. I just want to say thank you to all of you who have put so much hard work and time in this over the last few years! I will definitely be praying and fasting for you and them this week.

Love,

Jeremy Hall

Join us this winter at the Our Generation Summit. It is a weekend experience much like we will have next week at camp. In the next two week we will post all you need to register at bcwe.org.

I know that seems to be a shocking title. That was my intention, obviously. I wanted to get your attention about an important subject. The subject being the Word of God. We, at Vision Baptist Church, take teaching and preaching very seriously. I do not say that to imply we think we are the best communicators. What I mean by that is we believe that we should “handle the Word of God” according to the Word of God. We should teach and preach as the Bible instructs us. The Bible instructs us to “teach the whole counsel of God”.

My Pastor, Austin Gardner, teaches me and the other men of our church how to cheat. You will understand what I mean by this in the following article.

The following article was taken with permission from AustinGardner.net

A famous preacher said the following in response to the question What do you think about preaching verse-by-verse messages through books of the Bible?

Famous Preacher: Guys that preach verse-by-verse through books of the Bible– that is just cheating. It’s cheating because that would be easy, first of all. That isn’t how you grow people. No one in the Scripture modeled that. There’s not one example of that.

All Scripture is equally inspired, but not all Scripture is equally applicable or relevant to every stage of life. My challenge is to read culture and to read an audience and ask: What is the felt need? Or perhaps what is more important, what is an unfelt need they need to feel that I can address? Because if they don’t feel it, then they won’t address it.

I kind of grew up with that mentality and used it for many years! I felt like I could best meet the needs of my people by finding out what their needs were and meeting them. Another famous preacher said that a pastor should listen to his people and like a doctor find the passage that would help cure the sick. He said that expository, verse by verse preaching would kill a church!

I found that preaching what I felt like the people needed elevated me! It made me the judge of what they needed. It also allowed me to feel somehow superior to them! I saw their needs. I had the word from God. They better listen and respond.

I must admit that many have preached (and so have I) horrible and boring sermons that were verse by verse, expository preaching. It was an easy way not to study, just read and talk about the verses. I must admit that I have messed up both ways of preaching.

I agree with “famous preacher” that many passages are more applicable than others. However I think that God’s people need to hear His full counsel. I believe that all scripture is given by inspiration and is profitable.

I believe that we must study long hours and dig deep to get to the point that God is making from His passage of Scripture.

I want to invite you to the Bible Expo 2011 for that reason. So mark your calendar for April 5-8, 2011 and come be with us!

Will you choose to live for His name’s sake or for your name’s sake. Produced for the Our Generation Summit 2010
We just returned from an incredible time at the 7th Annual Our Generation Summit in Gatlinburg, TN! Where nearly three hundred believers gather each year to provoke one another to good works in the area of world missions. You can check out the archived videos here!

The theme “For His Name Sake” will be the theme for all B.C.W.E. Missions Events in 2011! You can learn more about the theme here on the website. The story of the two young Moravians embodies a message we would like to give to this generation. We should live our lives not for ourselves but for our loving Creator. He is our King and we live and serve for His Name Sake!

This is year we will have the 1st Annual OG Camp for middle school and high school students. We will follow in the fashion of the Our Generation Student Leadership Camp that has been going on for 8 summers now. We will have 2 camps on 1 campus for 1 great cause – world evangelism!

I have had a very difficult time giving this post a title. I was tempted to label it the “Best Youth Event Ever”. I recently gave a run down of our upcoming youth events in a post, Youth in Ministry. I did not list the service we had last Thursday night. I should have. It is an event that you can not plan in a matter of weeks or months. It made a huge impact on the life of our teenagers, especially the life of our young men. It was the ordination of a man of God!

I sincerely believe that this wonderful service may be the one of the most historic services that I will ever have the opportunity to be a part. I am am very grateful as a Student Pastor to have such wonderful examples set before our young people. In many ways it is nearly impossible to have a strong College and Career Ministry without a strong Youth Ministry feeding it. It is also very difficult to raise world changing teenagers without the faithful witness of passionate young people in the early and mid twenties.

Mark and Natasha Tolson are two of the most incredible, consecrated people that I know. They are headed to China this August to pour their lives out as a sacrifice to our great God. They will be the eighth couple from our church! However, my heart is knit to Mark in a very special way. I had the great privilege of meeting Mark Tolson six years ago. By watching his life I have seen the powerful potential of the life of a young man who completely surrenders his will to the will of his Maker.

Mark took many risks to be where he is today. He abandoned traditional education to receive the apprentice/mentoring relationship all men in the ministry need. He worked relentless at our church full time while working nearly a full time job outside of the church to pay the bills. He has seen people saved, baptized, and discipled them to be faithful members of the body of Christ.

Natasha and Mark are going through what will be one of the greatest changes of their lives. Mark and Natasha recently found out that their second child that is still in the womb has a condition called “Body Stalk Anomaly”. You can and should read Mark’s post concerning their response to this event in their life (here). Here is a couple of lines from his post “We will love this baby as long as it lives. We will tell it of it’s Creator and the love He has for us. We will tell it how it could soon be meeting Him.”

Request:

I fully understand that I do not have a very larger read base. However, there are a few out there of means. Not only financially, but with a powerful prayer life and with influence in arenas that could assist this family. Mark is a brother to me. We are connected by being part of the same generation, church, missions team, and unified by a common work. My wife and love Mark and Natasha with our whole hearts.

Would you make this young couple a priority in prayer life and a financial priority this year. Many of you read stories of the great missionaries of the past like Adoniram Judson and Hudson Taylor and would love to have been part of their great ministries. Here is your chance to be part of something bigger than yourselves. The world desires for you to be a cog in a machine that plays it safe and lives for yourself. Partnering with the Tolson family would allow you to do something that will impact eternity.

Why: to learn what would be a biblical answer to your questions!

Here are some of the questions that we will endeavor to answer:

How can pastors believe that my life should revolve around God when I do not have the luxury of time that a pastor has?

How do you keep focused on God when your life is consumed with business and worldly distractions?

How do I keep from focusing on my needs, concerns, ambitions, and allow God to use me?

How do I balance my time between family, friends, God, and business?

How can I increase my ability to draw close to God and remain close to Him when I am consumed by business and work?

How do you love God when your life is filled with unsaved family, friends, coworkers, etc?

The following was taken from Ben Johnson on the Our Generation Summit taking place December 31 through January 2 in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

“What can happen in 48 hours? To put it simply, the world can change. Think back just a few years, things were different from the morning of September 10, 2001 to the morning of September 12, 2001. People thought differently, lives were changed, and the world has never been the same.

It’s not much longer till the start of the Our Generation Summit. It will be two days of life challenging preaching and teaching from preachers like Austin Gardner, Tony Howeth, Ronald Tubillas and Trent Cornwell. Hear and spend time with missionaries from all over the world like Tyler Masters (North Africa), Kevin Hall (South Africa), and more!

These 48 hours can change your life, cause you to think differently but ultimately can affect the world for God’s glory! Deadline to register for the Our Generation Summit is December 3. Go towww.OGSummit.info to register and for more information. You don’t want to miss this!”OUr G

What a wonderful online event we had today! We were not sure exactly what to call it since we have never had an event that was completely online. We simply ask some missionaries, “If you had 5 minutes to speak to the youth pastors of America what would you say?” Today we heard their responses. Starting at 12 pm EST we heard heard from missionaries around the world as they poured their heart out to the youth workers of America. It was incredible and challenging.

We were amazed and overwhelmed by the response. This has lead us to prepare to at least two more online events. We are going to ask the missionaries to address the youth of America in 5 minute segments. Then we are going to ask some youth pastors to address missionaries. We have some kinks to work out since we had a much higher volume of people watching then I expected.

Here is a link to watch the conference if you missed it. We will have it looping on our BCWE channel for the next two weeks as we make preparation for another online event. Watch now!!
