the former things are passed away

It looks if I will finishing, once again, reading through the Bible tomorrow. I started on Oct.3rd of last year with the post Out of Nothing. It was exciting to talk with Mark Coffey, my brother-in-law and one of my best friends, today and hear how he is about to finish this weekend as well. What was even more exciting was knowing it was helping many other people on the journey.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. Revelation 21:4,5

I am fully aware that I do not have a complete understanding of how horrible sin is and how wonderful will be. This is evident in my tolerance for the things of this world and my apathetic desire to be in heaven. I am awaken to truth enough to know and appreciate that all sorrow, death, crying, and pain will be removed.

I have heard it said, “if all you problems can be solved with money that you are doing pretty good”. The greatest issues in life are not those caused by a lack of money. I ask God to give me a stronger desire for heaven, to help me count my life as dung in knowing Him and the excellency of His power. We know so much about God’s strength through creation and other acts of other believers. We are looking through a darken glass.

I know of God’s power to “make all things new”. As I learn about “being raised to walk in newness of life” I learn that God’s “new” is so amazing. When Steve Jobs has something new people flock to the store to get it. We are enamored with new. We are dissatisfied with what we have. We are always reaching for more. What we have is just not good enough to meet our needs and desire to we want something new.

As a Christian that is how I feel about my place here in this earth. I recognize I was made for something more. I recognize this is a flawed system. I have come to desire and need more.
