One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after

One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple. Psalm 27:4

Last night my Pastor preached one of the most practical messages I have heard concerning the Christian life. We are currently in a series from Philippians. His text was from Philippians 2:9,10 and it is often a controversial passage, “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” In his expositional sermon he showed us our responsibility was not to make a list of “do’s and don’ts” to live our lives by. We should focus our energy, passion, and time to knowing and loving God more deeply.

I pray that I will take heed to the message and lead my family closer to the Lord every day. I want to know Him more fully. My prayer is that of the Apostle Paul in Eph 2:18,19 where he wants to better comprehend the depth of God’s love. This seems to also be the prayer of David here in Psalm 27. David desire one thing and that he will “dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my (his) life”.

Today I have dwelled in the presence of my God and drawn closer to Him. I plan to do the same tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day. May the Lord keep me from removing this “one thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after” with lesser objectives in life!
