These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had..

These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel. 1 Chronicles 11:10

After nine chapters of genealogy in 1 Chronicles we get to chapter ten and the story of the death of Saul. This book contains record of the reign of David however we find in chapter ten how David came to the throne. It is a reminder of David’s integrity in waiting upon God for His promotion.

In chapter number eleven we find of David’s anointing to be king. He allows the men around him to prove themselves in deciding who would be the chief and captain of his army. Immediately after the verse on David we get a list of David’s mighty men.

It is amazing how many times after this point we will see a listing of David’s mighty men. In almost every mention of the exploits of David you will read of the aid of these men. It is important that these men were not only David’s mighty men, they are also God’s mighty men. What David would accomplish would be decided in large part in whom he surrounds himself.

I need to spend more time in developing all the men around me. I have varying levels of influence in their lives. Some our peers, others are my authorities, and some would see me as a mentor. In 2010 we are going further for battle. May I be surrounded and help form some mighty men.
