Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou didst well in that it was in thine heart 0
8But the LORD said to David my father, Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou didst well in that it was in thine heart: 9Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house; but thy son which shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name. 2 Chronicles 6:8,9
One of the wonderful things that seperates us from the animal kingdom, besides our opposable thumb, is our ability to dream. I am not talking about the kind of nightmares you have a night where you are in high school and everyone is laughing at you. I am talking about the “it was in thine heart” kind of dreams. I often tell the students at the O.G.T.C to dream big. Dreaming allows you to make since of your past, gives you hope for the future, and costs you nothing today. The fact that dreaming is free is a good thing for college students.
I would not say I am having a midlife crisis being that I turn twenty seven next month. However, I am becoming aware that God may have placed more in my heart then this life time my allow me to see come to fruition. I do not see how I will be part of a church planting movement in Atlanta, India, and North Korea. I am thankful for the reminder in this verse that “thou didst well in that it was in thine heart”. It is okay, natural, and follows the example of those before me to have dreams that are bigger than a life span.
It reminds me of where I should look to see my part in these bigs dream. Even though I can not see my life taking me on a journey where I get to be part of a church planting movement in Atlanta, India, and North Korea. I can see my part in the future when I look into the eyes of the handful of teenagers that God has touched their hearts.
It appears that for many of the dreams I have for around the world that I may get to be like David. I will not build the house but I might supply the furniture. I may not build the church but I will train the preacher! We do well to have to have “bigger than our life dreams” in our hearts!
