Now therefore let me alone

What a tremendous statement from God to Moses, “Now therefore let me alone..”. I love this passage of scripture because it really shows the way we should go about being missions advocates. Moses was more concerned about God’s global reputation then he was about himself or the people he ministered to. In his plea he asks God to remember the promise made to the forefathers of our faith. Moses also says that the Egyptians will think that the God of the the children of Israel was not so mighty.

9And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people: 10Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation. 11And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand? 12Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.13Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever.

What a wonderful challenge to do missions and live life for His Namesake! When things are at its best we should give God His rightful place and He should be praised. In the tough times, as we see here, we should be more concerned about how we are representing our God to this world then our circumstances. Moses did not plead on behalf of any family member, friend, or even himself. Moses knew that their God’s global fame was the most important issue here.

Moses was so persist in His prayers and had such deep concern for his people that God told him, “Now therefore let me alone”. May I become so persist in my prayers on the behalf of a people that if God chose to do something with them He would tell me to leave Him alone concerning the issue.
