LORD thy God bare thee, as a man doth bear his son

What tremendous words of comfort! God told the children of Israel that while they were in Horeb that they “had dwelt long enough in this mount” (v.6). Moses reminds them of their march from through the wilderness Horeb to Kadesh-barnea (v. 19). He remind them of how near they kisses the door of the Promise Land but their lack of faith caused them years of wondering (v.20). Moses reminds them of the blessings they were shown by the spies after they came out of the land. (v.21,22). He tells them how he worked to encourage them when others tried to discourage them (v.29). This leads us to these wonderful verses.

The LORD your God which goeth before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes; And in the wilderness, where thou hast seen how that the LORD thy God bare thee, as a man doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went, until ye came into this place. Deuteronomy 1:30,31

I have said this on many occasions. My love for my son has opened my heart up to a new understand of my Heavenly Fathers love for me. I believe my father loved me, however, I never felt safe and secure in his leadership in my life. On a few occassions I felt scared as he drove down the road, literally and metaphorically.

I desire that my son would feel safe in my arms. When Thatcher gets tired of walking, needs to go somewhere he can’t get to on his own, or doesn’t know where he is going he looks to me to carry him. There are places to go and dreams I have in my heart that I fear I will never be able to arrive. I need to relax knowing that the Lord my God bares me, as a I would my son.

Just as my son often squims to be set down so that he can walk on his own. I often only look to God to carry form through tough times then try to walk on my own. It says here that they were carried “in all the way that ye went”. I look forward to the journey ahead in my life, our families ministry, and the church and wonder if I will be able to perserve to the end. I am thankful that my strength is not needed. I will be taken in the arms of the Creator of the Universe.
