he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth
If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth. Numbers 30:2
This is very straightforward and convicting. I need to keep my mouth shut. It would probably take me ten lifetimes to do “all that proceedeth out of my mouth”!
I have no desire or affinity for lying. However, I often “over commit” myself. In many ways this is like buying influence or respect on credit. Someone needs something done so you tell them you will help them in the future in exchange for approval today. I like to please people. I like to be needed. On many occassions I have told people I would get, do, or email someone something and not put a system in place to follow through.
According to this verse a lack of organization is many instances is not only a personality flaw but could become sin. I must take my personal discplines more seriously. I need to keep my mouth shut and record what proceedeth out of my mouth so I can follow through.
