Well, this is day two of blogging from my phone. However, I will not bemoan the fact that my mac is down. When I think of the body of work John Bunyan and Watchman Nee accomplished true adversity I am content to record my simple thoughts using T9.
Genesis 19:31 made a huge impact in my heart this morning as I read. My pastor had just covered this story two weeks ago while he was preaching through Ephesians. He used the story of Lot and and his daughters to illustrate the importance or ‘be not drunk with wine’.
Stories of alcohol have always stood out to me. As a twelve year old boy I rode in the back of a car with a drunken farther at the will. As we accelerate to speeds I had never been to or been to since I firmly came to the conclusion wine is a mocker.
As I look at this conversation at the end of Genesis 19 I see more than the harmful consequences of alcohol. I see the horrible consequences of a daughter that was raised by a father who believed in situational ethics. One might wonder what kind of girl could develop such a vile plan. It is clear the type of girl who grew up with a father who allowed circumstances and not conviction dictate his decisions.
I am currently the father of a 15 month old sons, Thatcher. This February my wife and I see expecting a daughter. What principles will my oldest learn from my life that he will teach the younger. We work for discipleship to take place in context of church. However, it is inevitable in the home.
I ask God today to make me into a man of character that would cause the conversations of my children to devise plans to glorify your name and not to seek after their best interests. My the environment I create for my children to cause them to be simple concerning the things of this world.
