I am often tempted to think that what I am doing is not as important as will I will do someday. Our church has a very simple, Bible based philosophy of life and ministry. This is not true just for the pastor and the adult ministries. Be |Do|Serve|Train. With that being said I know what I am doing today in the ministry will be what I do in the future – train. I do not think the work I will do in the future will be more significant. However, I sometimes believe the lie that what I will do will be more significant will more people are involved.
Over the last few weeks our church has began to formulate a plan to start a new church in a community in down town Atlanta called Cabbagetown. As I listen to the pastor cast a vision to reach more people with the Gospel I realize that I better review what we do in student ministry. My pastor, Austin Gardner, reminds us often that we need to strive for excellence in our church because it is God’s plan that we would duplicate what we do.
It has challenged me to…
1. To schedule and plan our teaching serious out with more efficiency. I need to prepare lessons and package them in a way that our missionaries and other campuses could make use of the material.
2. Look at the areas we are weak and think about how I would not want it “copy and pasted” ten times.
3. Write out what we do and why. I should prepare to explain our methods, calendar, and strategy to others who would be starting a student ministry.
