Off Switch

MX350_on_switch_lgLast week my wife and I attended a service at Lakeland Baptist Church. We heard a wonderful message from Pastor Rhodes and enjoyed the music from the Pilgrims. There are so many wonderful things I could say about Lakeland and the Pilgrims but that is not the purpose of the post.

One of the reasons I enjoyed the service so greatly was that I was able to hit the “off switch”. Sitting in the service I did not worry about the teens, sound system, hall ways, order of service or a million other things.  I was able to enjoy the beautiful bluegrass sounds of the Pilgrims and intently listen to the preaching from the book of James.

My pastor has warned us all about the dangers of being distracted during our services. When I was able to contrast my experience at a church I did not serve at to my normal experience I was able to see my error.

Here are some of the changes I will make:

1. I will work much harder at having everything that can be done by Saturday afternoon.

2. I will write down the issues that I am trying to remember before I enter the auditorium. I will write them down and forget them until after the service.

3. I will make sure I have communicated with our volunteers and be confident they know what needs to be accomplished before, during, and after the service.
