Youth Ministry Mistakes/ Confession #4 ”Not taking my teenagers problems seriously”
This isn’t fun anymore. I planned on writing 10 of these. The first couple were easy and I confessed things we all do. Now I am having to be transparent. I have not always taken my teenagers problems seriously. By not taking their problem seriously then I lead them to believe I do not care about them. This is the last thing I would want.
As I write this I am dealing with three teenagers moving away. Some teens were crying tonight and I was facing the reality of losing them. All three were saved under the ministry the Lord has given us and I will miss them greatly. They are at different stages of spiritual growth but I have seen tremendous growth in them all.
These three students have told me on several occasions they were moving. The first couple of times I was really concerned and showed great interest. After a while I felt like they were like the little boy who cried “wolf”. So I did not give it much thought when I heard them talk about it. However, there is a difference in them and the boy who cried wolf. They believed it to be true every time. They never caught on to the fact that it might not happen.
Plans to correct the problem
I do not need to only consider a problem from my perspective. What would not be a problem to a shepherd such as a babbling brook could terrify one of his sheep. I need to take their problems to heart and help them deal with the emotions they are feeling.
